I'm Kris Wood. I work directly with founders and leadership teams on the strategic decisions that shape how their business is understood, positioned and chosen.

What I Do

The work is strategic. The output is commercial.

I help businesses get deliberate about the meaning they create. Not through a rebrand, but through the hard strategic decisions: who you're for, what you stand for, why you win, and what you're willing to walk away from.

That work requires leadership. It can't be delegated to a marketing team or outsourced to an agency. It needs the people at the top of the business to get in a room, have the uncomfortable conversations, and commit to a direction. My job is to make that process faster, sharper and more honest than it would be without an outside perspective.

Once the strategy is clear, everything else follows. Marketing gets easier. Sales conversations get shorter. Hiring decisions get more obvious. And the business compounds in a way that busy-but-unfocused never does.

I work with founder-led and leadership-driven businesses. Typically CEOs and MDs who are:

  • Scaling and needing the brand to carry more commercial weight
  • Diversifying and struggling to hold multiple offers together coherently
  • Repositioning after a pivot, acquisition or market shift
  • Restructuring and needing internal alignment before external execution
Where I Started

I came up through design. I moved into strategy because someone had to.

I started my career in design. And early on I had the same frustration that most designers have: being asked to make things look better for businesses that hadn't yet worked out what they were trying to say. The brief would arrive, execution would start, and somewhere in the middle everyone would realise the foundations weren't there.

That frustration pushed me into strategy. If the thinking wasn't solid before the work started, nothing I produced at the end would fix it. So I started going earlier in the process, asking harder questions, and spending more time in boardrooms than design studios.

In 2017 I founded Ayuda, the delivery studio that builds identity, websites and marketing assets for ambitious businesses. But the part of the work I'm most drawn to, the part where the real leverage is, has always been the strategy that comes first.

So that's what Kris Wood is. The consultancy side. The thinking that makes the execution worth doing.
